The pronunciation may be controversial ("Coos" or "Cows") but everyone agrees that these are some fun, challenging little whitetails to chase. Coues are often called the "Grey Ghost" because of their elusiveness. Indeed, their grey coat can make them seem to disappear right in front of your eyes! These deer have made their home in the sky islands and rough terrain of southern Arizona. Where else can you hunt whitetailed deer while bumping into coatimundi, javelina, and Mearn's quail?

Tags for Coues are currently fairly easy to draw, especially archery tags. Non-resident hunters might expect to wait a couple years to draw a rifle tag. Some seasons run concurrently with other big game species such as black bears, so a combination hunt is possible.
